What is thyroid and symptoms

• Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located in the lower part of the neck, which controls the metabolism of the body. This gland is called thyroid in medical language.


• Its work is to control many essential activities of the body such as converting food into energy etc. These hormones help in weight loss or gain by controlling calorie intake.


• It enables the body to use energy


• It produces hormones that keep the heart, brain, and other body organs functioning properly


• It keeps the body warm


The thyroid produces two main hormones: 

1-Thyroxine (T4) 

2-Triiodothyronine(T3) 


• Thyroid problems occur when this gland produces more or less hormones than required


• Thyroid problems can be seen in two ways:

• When the thyroid gland produces less hormones than the normal range for the body  Hypo-thyroidism)

A person can become fat in this 

• When the thyroid gland produces more hormones than the normal range Hyper-thyroidism 

A person can become thin in this


• If the thyroid decreases or increases from its normal range then these symptoms start appearing
